Coach John Kelley

Coach Kelley has been involved with the Egg Harbor Township boys’ crew team since 2018 and has been the head coach since 2020. He has been involved with the sport of rowing for over 40 years, starting as a middle schooler at the Viking Rowing Club in Ventnor, NJ, and has been rowing ever since. Having rowed for Atlantic City High School and University of Pennsylvania during his high school and college years, he has had success in many major regattas, winning The Philly City Championships, the Stotesbury Regatta, the Redwood Shores and the Head of Charles Regatta. He has also had success at The Eastern Sprints, IRA’s, and The Henley Royal Regatta and has taken the shirt off many an opponent’s back in match races. A lifelong Atlantic County resident, Coach Kelley spent many summers during his younger years on the Margate Beach Patrol, where he also rowed competitively and enjoyed success in surf boat racing.

As a Member of Viking Rowing Club, Coach Kelley has competed in many master’s races and has served on the Board of Directors since 2015, where he supervises master’s, high school and collegiate summer programs. While he loves coaching and being out on the water, his full time career is in wealth management, and he has been a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley since 2010. He resides in Linwood with Kelly, his dog Ringo, and Kirby the cat (both named after Georgia football legends).
